Peter Yarrow

Peter Yarrow,

Pioneer Place,
Sunday May 13, 2012,
7:30 p.m., $30

Folk icon Peter Yarrow is almost as well-known for his social activism as for his half-century of music-making. As one-third of Peter, Paul, & Mary, he was both an energetic transmitter of traditional material and an early advocate of the songs of Bob Dylan, Gordon Lightfoot, John Denver, Laura Nyro, and Richard Farina. As a songwriter, his compositions range from "Puff, the Magic Dragon" and "The Great Mandala" to "Torn Between Two Lovers" to "The Colonoscopy Song." During the 1970s hiatus of PP&M, he made four solo albums, produced a film and Emmy-winning TV specials, and continued to immerse himself in peace and social-justice causes. He continues to tour solo and with his old friend and colleague Noel Paul Stookey.
